Old Horseshoe Tavern in Johnstown

Good food and good service. The only drawback? The table and floor was sticky.

Upon arrival and initial entry, I was captivated by the rustic horse themed interior. However, our table had not been wiped down from previous customers and we needed to ask for it to be. The menu selection and pricing was attractive. But my salad was served with a hair on the plate about 6 bites in. The waitress did have it remade upon request. Both of the restrooms were dirty. No discount was offered for our experience. My remade salad remained uneaten, as I'd lost my taste for it. We won't be returning. A big disappointment.

Had lunch which was reasonably priced and good. Did not get to try any alcoholic beverages as had to work. Atmosphere is dark and a bit musky but it is a fabulous older building so in the end recommend.

Beautiful decor, friendly staff, and a sirloin I could cut with a fork. we will definitely be back.

It is good place to stop by in Johnstown, has decent food options too. Good outdoor seating.

The food was only so-so, and not priced to reflect that. The service was weak, and we were the only patrons beside a carryout. Either way, old bag ripoff.

I am rating it lower because they were short staffed so everything was slow. Placing our order, getting our drinks and our food was very slow. The food wasn't bad and the waitress was enjoyable. It may have just been a case of someone calling in sick.

Good food and most elegant atmosphere in Johnstown, but they only staff one server and therefore their outside seating in the back is rarely open. The outdoor seating is the best, so that is unfortunate.

If I could leave no stars I would. My boyfriend and I decided to eat here one night and ended up leaving. The restaurant was not busy. We weren't greeted when we walked in, another customer had to tell us it was "seat yourself". We found an empty table that was sticky. After 15mins a waitress brought us chips and what treated liked jarred salsa and took our drink order. After receiving our drinks our waitress never came back to take our meal order and after 30mins of waiting we left!

The food and service here is amazing. I have completely missed seeing this restaurant/Pub until a friend mentioned it. Been there a couple times now and always a treat. It's a must try.

Food was good and we had great service from Joseph. The nachos appetizer was huge even for 4 people. Atmosphere was nice and burger was flavorful. Onion rings were crispy. I deducted 1 star for the slightly high prices, but everything else was a good experience.

Fast service for such excellent food. The fish was excellent. The fries and the sweet potatoe fries were the best I've ever had. The Cole slaw was excellent. The green beens were done right. The decor was very nice.

Great people, great music jam session upstairs. Bar downstairs and upstairs are beautiful. Nice restoration.

Kinda weird the server. Was swishing medication she told us....sweet fries way over done... regular fries cold.... had to ask for ketchup and salt.... never got salt... Assume they forgot... And glass had tide mark that was all way around glass and was all greasy that we had to wipe away.... but Beautiful place... great area easy park....blackened chicken looked amazing... and I was told tasted just as good... Will go back to see if just off Friday night.. but arrived at 815 only had 4 customers.... has lot lot of potential.... try it out yourself and decide maybe I just got off night......

Beautifully restored building. Very clean and the taps are nice and cold. The bartender/waitress was very nice and helpful. The only downside of this little gem is that the upstairs patio isn't open. So much lost potential.

I drive from Washington PA to Sunbury, Ohio a few times a month, and let me tell you, outside of fast food, the path is very short on good restaurants. On a whim, i stopped here after gassing up in Johnstown snd im now kicking myself for every missed opportunity to eat here! Friendly staff, quick service and the best short rib sandwich..well, ANY sandwich I've ever eaten. I seriously could dream of that sandwich. Outstanding sweet potato fries to boot.

Loved the fried mushrooms! By reading other reviews we knew there would be a wait so not surprised. Friendly staff and decor was warm and inviting.

Tried this place several times and it just keeps getting worse. Mediocre food at best, slow service and high prices. What's to like? Do yourself a favor - drive a little bit to another restaurant or cook at home - you'll be ahead of the game.

The Horseshoe is a lovely little family-owned restaurant in the heart of the charming village of Johnstown. Alcohol is served but it is a family-friendly place with good food (from burgers to steak). What makes the trip worthwhile for me, though, is the live acoustic music. Check their website for weekend performers. I also love their monthly open mics and monthly jam sessions. Both are cool events with impressive, eclectic talent, yet welcoming and supportive to newbies. Host Mike Hale is a music powerhouse and great guy who keeps it fun. I am always glad I came.

Great time! My husband and I went there on the Saturday after Valentine's Day, expecting it to be busy. We were pleasantly surprised when we got a seat right away. Our waitress was Stephanne, she was wonderful! Very friendly and helpful, and she made THE BEST blackberry margarita!! I ordered the fish and chips, and husband ordered the short rib sandwich. My husband actually said WOW after the first bite of his sandwich - which speaks volumes! My fish and fries were better than Old Bag of Nails!! We will definitely be back!!

The burger was freezer burnt and the onions on it were rank like they were from a few days ago. The fries were good and the salad my friends ordered looked good. The ambiance is cool. I just expected better food from a place that had such a nice appearance.

Sandwhiches are good here and we had good service.

Food tastes great, but it took forever to get our food. We were here over 45 minutes before we got our food. There were three other tables with people who already had their food. Then to top it all off they forgot to make one of our party’s food and she had to wait another 20-25 minutes...

Just a great place to go. It's old but very clean. Owner did the remodeling. It has interesting historically significant photos all over the rear walls. Lots of wood throughout with tin ceiling tiles. You get the idea. Full menu for dining and bar. You'll get a warm, comfortable feeling in this place.

Great atmosphere, service and food

I ordered from here. We have a family of five and going out to eat is tough. We order carryout typically. We called and the person answering the phone the first time we ordered seemed annoyed at best through the whole process. The food was okay but the service was awful. We called tonight to order for our family again. The first call went unanswered. The second call someone answered and started to answer a few questions we had about the menus options. They said they were doing carryout. Then when we asked a follow up question the woman just stopped responding and put the phone on mute or something. We called back giving her the benefit of the doubt and someone answered, muted the phone and left the line without saying hello. When we tried again no answer. The service at this restaurant is awful and they were rude without cause to a family trying to order a meal. I won't call again and I'd caution you also.

I was here a few months ago with family that live in the area. We were there around 4pm on a weekday. The place was not busy and service was fast. The food was great and the server was very friendly. I don't understand the negative reviews as my family really likes this place and I can see why! I guess the town hasn't changed much since I left...people still love to complain about everything there. Glad I don't live there anymore but wish this restaurant was closer to where I live now.

Excellent Gem in charming little Johnstown. Hubs could cut his steak with fork!!!!!!!! I had Cod and shrimp which was yummy. Waitress was outstanding. Highly recommend.

Odd fish battering, came out like tubes, and the take away chicken tenders were burnt visibly. Two finds were ok with their dinners but the fried mushrooms were similar with the breading poor.

Local Bar and Restaurant in center of the small farm town near our home. Service and menu selection is always consistently very good. The food has always been fine, the wait staff friendly and courteous. Historic photographs of old Johnstown, Ohio in the late 1800's early 1900's are fascinatting.

The owner manager is very inexperienced and has a major attitude issue good food and great servers

A friend and I had dinner here and the food was fantastic, super attentive and polite staff, and $2 margaritas on Tuesdays! Will definitely be back.

The menu has several choices and fair prices. Service has been slow the 6 times we visited. They usually have just 1 waitress. Try the braised beef and cheese sandwich.

Entertained a small party this evening. Had the best Manhattan ever. We enjoyed a burger platter, chicken parmesan and a grilled chicken dinner with fresh broccoli. Always a pleasant experience with attentive staff.

This is the first time my husband and I tried this place -- we found it by accident. The food was very good and quite filling. If we had known how good (and how many) their french fries are, we wouldn't have ordered potato skins (which were also good). Loved the decor, and our waitress was very sweet. I would bet my husband's only complaint was that there weren't enough dark beers on tap. We will definitely come back again.

I did work here for a very long time,until July 2018. I miss the customers so much. I enjoy the food and seeing my work family everyday!
